Admissions Timeline for September 2018

July 2017 - If you live in Birmingham you will receive information on the secondary transfer process from Birmingham Local Authority through the child’s Birmingham primary school or via the post if your child attends a primary school outside Birmingham. If you have not received any literature please contact the Children’s Information and Advice Service on 0121 303 1888. If you live outside of Birmingham but wish to apply for a Birmingham School or Academy, you must apply to your own Local Authority (your home Authority) for their information booklet and Preference Form for you to fill in and return to them.

September 2017 - Schools hold open session events.

2nd October 2017 - Parent/carers are strongly advised to apply online or to have returned your Birmingham Local Authority Preference Form by this date. If Parent/carers wish to view schools that are outside of Birmingham and whose open evenings fall after 1 October 2016 they may return the Birmingham Local Authority Preference Form by the final deadline of 31st October 2016. This will not disadvantage their application.

31st October 2017 - Tuesday 31st October is the final date for acceptance of preferences and online applications or change of preference through moving home etc. If Parent/carers submit an application online they will receive an email acknowledgement; if they submit a paper application they will receive an acknowledgement through the post. If parent/carers have not received an acknowledgement of their preference form before this date they should contact Children’s Information and Advice Service on 0121 303 1888.

1st March 2018 - Emails are sent to those applicants who have applied online for their child’s secondary school place and an email will be sent ahead of postal notifications. Parent/Carers can also log in to the online application system using their user name and password to check the offer. Letters are sent on Wednesday 1st March 2017 to let Parent/carers know the secondary school place has been offered to their child. Letters are sent by first class post and should arrive at the home address by Thursday 2nd March 2017.

16th March 2018 - Parent/carers must tell the school by Thursday 16th March 2016 whether or not they are accepting the place offered.

29th March 2018 - Parent/carers must complete any appeal forms for Birmingham community schools and the majority of academies and return them by Wednesday 29th March 2018 to Birmingham City Council, Directorate for People, School Admissions and Pupil Placement Service, PO Box 16513, Birmingham B2 2FF. Please visit the School Appeals Enquiry page for more information on how to appeal. If Parent/carers wish to appeal for schools or academies in other local authorities they should contact the relevant authority to establish their appeal arrangements.

18th June 2018 - Date by which all appeals that have been submitted on time for secondary schools will be heard.

July 2018 - Year 6 Induction Day - Primary children visit future secondary school.

September 2018 - Start school in Year 7
